RESUMO

Extracraneal meningiomas represent 2% of all meningiomas and can appear in different locations including paranasales sinuses. There are no statistics regarding ectopic malignant meningiomas, but they are considered extremely rare. Due to this, there is no management protocol. We present a patient with a malignant meningioma of the etmoidal sinus, his treatment and the evolution over a five year period.

We have noticed that macrolides can improve the main symptoms of many patients with chronic pharyngitis. We feel that the efficacy of macrolides for chronic pharyngitis can be due to the anti-inflammatory effect of this group of antibiotics. However, we think that at present the use of macrolides is not the therapy of choice for chronic pharyngitis.

RESUMO

We have not found in the literature an explanation for the intermittent and transient decreased lesser hearing sensation in patients with dysesthesia of the external auditory canal (EAC). In this paper we offer a possible explanation for it. Our hypothesis is that the stimulation of the sensory fibers of the trigeminal and facial nerves in the EAC is able to increase the stiffness of the ossicular chain by means of a reflex stimulation of malleus and stapes muscles. This intermittent and transient increase of the ossicular stiffness could explain the intermittent and transient decrease of hearing sensation in these patients.

Tris(benzene-1,2-dithiolate)molybdenum(VI) reacts rapidly and quantitatively with tetrabutylammonium hydroxide to yield the corresponding Mo(V) and Mo(IV) complexes and hydrogen peroxide; the reaction has been executed in dry tetrahydrofuran where the reaction rate shows a fair dependence on complex and OH- concentrations.

RESUMO

A clinical case of a woman with AIDS who developed lymphoma of the nasopharynx and paralysis of the VII, IX and XII cranial nerves is reported. The probable origin of the paralysis in relation to AIDS and lymphoma is discussed.

RESUMO

The cause of lateral cervical branchial cysts is debated. Some authors claim that they are congenital, whereas others believe that they are acquired, being their likely origin cystic degeneration of the cervical lymph nodes. Their protocol of study and differential diagnosis with respect to malignant neck masses are of special interest. A retrospective clinical study was made of 13 cervical branchial cysts seen by one of the authors over a decade-long period. Based on the results, their probable origin is discussed and a study protocol is proposed. Although it has been discussed by some authors, we conclude that the origin of branchial cysts cannot be determined through this type of clinical study. Computed tomography and fine-needle aspiration currently are essential diagnostic methods in the study protocol of these lesions.

RESUMO

A generalization of the molar-ratio method is proposed, which allows study of relatively weak complexes. The method is based on treatment of the data from a molar-ratio saturation curve. From the mathematical expression derived, the stoichiometry, degree of condensation and stability constant are easily evaluated. Graphical representations of the results can be used advantageously.
